Great news recently for our Harris Institute proje

Great news recently for our Harris Institute project. After acheiving Full Planning Permission, we’ve now discharged the key prior commencement conditions, so stripping out works can commence alongside completion of the Dry Rot removal. This was key so that the former courtyard can be recreated, which not only allows the heritage asset to breathe again and help erradicate the final Dry Rot, but will provide a unique space for the guests.

This regeneration project is close to our studio on Winckley Square and plays on so many heart strings in the community of Avenham (including residents, businesses and various groups).

After the completion of the Tram Bridge a couple of months ago, this iconic grade II* listed asset sits in a commanding position north of the Avenham colonnade, connecting the Tram Bridge to the city. A perfect city gateway from the south.

For 12 years we have been designing homes for all

For 12 years we have been designing homes for all kinds of tastes and styles for our clients. In 2018 I started to create my own Scandi minimalistic furniture pieces and here in 2026 we have an extended dining table named : Lifeform. No glues or screws… designed and made with a digital fabrication process called CNC, which is essentially a file to factory cutting process of plywood. We have developed the skill over years of R&D trial and error. The plywood slots together strong, and effortlessly holds a 2m long 10mm toughened glass top.

What a place this is to help showcase how dining in the presence of a water source can be great for the soul.

I really feel we can improve how we use our spaces

I really feel we can improve how we use our spaces in Preston. Liverpool have done a great job with their waterside venue at the Pier. I recently watched Snow Patrol with my daughter and it was fantastic!
It gave me the idea that the large forecourt infront of the Bus Station by the side of the Guild Hall, could really create an iconic space. With the benefit of a great architectural backdrop, facilities, transport and parking. With a bit of careful planning it would tie in with bus routes and services necessary.

Yes it would be a fair weather space! Lytham have the green… we could have the… “grey?”

We’re delighted to share another planning success for Preston!

Our team has successfully secured Planning Permission for the conversion and sensitive third-floor extension of 170 North Road, Preston, creating 14 high-quality supported living bedrooms with en-suite facilities (Use Class C2).
This project represents far more than the approval of a planning application. It’s about giving a well-known Preston landmark a new lease of life whilst creating accommodation that will provide safe, high-quality supported living for adults who need it most.

Many local people will recognise the building as the long-standing home of Bernard Watson, whose story began even earlier as John Corbishley & Sons, established in 1878. For almost 150 years, the site has been synonymous with craftsmanship, heritage and service to the local community, with generations of skilled tradespeople working from North Road and leaving their mark on some of Lancashire’s most treasured buildings.

We’re incredibly proud to have played our part in helping preserve this important piece of Preston’s history, ensuring it continues to serve the community in a completely new way for generations to come.

A huge thank you to our client for entrusting us with this exciting project. We’re looking forward to seeing the next chapter unfold.

Our Marrakech contemporary villa approved in 2024! Designed for a local Developer who bought land to create a luxury private estate with views over the Atlas Mountains.

A perfect place to relax, train, play and explore. Our studio really enjoyed working on this, which led to a 12x storey apartment block in Dubai and a Reformer Pilates studio in Broughton… worlds apart but with our small studio at the helm.

I need to honour @chrisdarley and congratulate him on these fantastic photos of our new Tram Bridge! I have seen some great photos this last week since the inaugural opening on the 22nd May 2026! These are up there in my top 10!

We are overwhelmed with the love for the Bridge! So proud of Preston City Council and Lancashire County Council, and to be part of it:.. has been fantastic! Eric Wright Group delivered here!

All the hard work to inspire for a new bridge, the lobbying by the Friends of the Old Tram Road Bridge, the schools who took part in the competition, the business community who pulled together to award them, and to all the unsung heroes in my design team, the Engineers, the Comms/PR, Media, Photographers and Videographers! the Admin and Accounts… the politicians (albeit I’m Apolitical) all helped make it so!

Tried something new recently with a sponsored board at Ashbridge Independent School and Nurseries Hutton, Preston.

I don’t know about you and your business, but building relationships and doing great work is essential. Then for me it’s about trying out new things to engage and promote. Not one size fits all or particularly throwing money into it. I’ve tried all sorts over the years. Some stronger than others, some seemed like an absolute waist of time (G o o g l e a d s in particulars for us anyway).

Going local has always resonated more for us, bigging up and supporting other local businesses. Collaborating and referring work to each other. That’s how our group Project Collab started and still acts as a ‘go to’ group.

Well after ‘8 years’ in some shape or form being involved in scheming and sketching, meeting and making things happen! Our Eldon Street project in Preston is now officially ‘practically complete’ and handed over. Final small snags and additions to be finalised over the next couple of weeks, along with an official Opening Day…

It looks great and thank you to ALL involved! It’s been a journey and RWP (Reside With Progress) Housing Association have been so professional, patient and attentive to detail. Whitfield & Brown (Developments) Ltd got it over the line thanks to Jon Murphy .

Huge kudos to Mark Baybutt Clerk of Works, all the Sub Contractors and BEECH JACKSON PARTNERSHIP LIMITED M&E. All under the safe hands of Thornber & Walker QS. As well as Reid Jones Partnership Ltd on Structure and Civils.

Russell Gallagher delivered for our client and it’s commendable on the professionalism and drive he’s brought to the project.

“Beauty Surrounds, Health Abounds!”
I heard this phrase at the Place North West event on Thursday, and it really hit home. It is the historic motto of the English seaside town of Morecambe, originating from its 1920s tourism peak. It highlights the town’s scenic bay, views of the Lake District, and the reputed health benefits of its seaside air and environment, often displayed on local mosaics and coats of arms.

It’s inspiring, but also logical. One of the reasons I love being an Architect is the unashamed passion to create great buildings and places. Because of how it makes us feel! Whether it’s the natural light, the form/shape, the space, the colours and textures. The views in and out, and the setting. It’s really important for us humans, and guess what… 99% of the time, if you get it right… those carefully designed projects yield value on many levels. From health to wealth! JB
